White Brothers has announced today that they have been selected to receive a Queen’s Award for Enterprise – the highest accolade available to UK businesses. White Brothers has been selected to receive the honour in the category of Innovation, specifically recognizing the company’s remarkable achievements and commercial success in creating a unique and sustainable commercial model for sourcing and supplying new products to charity retail organisations throughout the UK.
White Brothers made the decision in 2008 to exclusively supply to the UK charity sector. A new commercial and supply chain model was designed with the specific aim of sourcing surplus product from factories, importers, distributors and retailers to supply to the UK charity retail sector. This has provided suppliers with an opportunity to commercially exit surplus product from their business in a sustainable manner and at the same time provide a route for UK charity retailers to source new and exciting products to complement and enhance their core donations, providing valuable new income streams for the charities they support.
Bruce Rolls & Matthew Keates, founders and Co-Directors at White Brothers, have been immensely pleased by the progress the business has made since developing this new commercial model in the charity retail sector, and are thrilled that the business has been recognized with such a prestigious award.
“By defining our new supply model and evolving our existing distribution network to cater to the charity sector, we have successfully established ourselves as a highly valued, unique supplier to over 40% of the UK’s charity shops.” said Matthew. “We wanted to offer something different and today we are the only product sourcing company to provide such a service to the UK charity sector. We work hard to maintain relationships with our suppliers and customers and this has created a strong, resilient supply chain, and we look forward to sustaining this into the future.”
Bruce adds “This award is another milestone for our company and recognizes the hard work everyone in the business puts in to create a unique supply chain, offering sustainability for our suppliers and unique fresh products for our customers. Our values reflect those of the sector we work in and we’ve created a successful business that is based largely on trust and building meaningful relationships with both our suppliers and customers alike.”
Alison Whittingham is Managing Director of ExtraCare Shops, a trading arm of the ExtraCare Charitable Trust, raising funds to give older people a new lease of life. “White Brothers have been a partner of our charity for nearly ten years and supply a wide and varied range of products to our chain of 60 charity shops. Their business model has enabled us to generate valuable new income for the charity, allowing us to consistently source new products to sit alongside our core donations and enhance the offering to our customers. White Brothers are a valuable partner to our charity and in my opinion offer a great example to all suppliers to the sector of how to operate a supportive and collaborative business.”
White Brothers business model directly supports many of our society’s most worthwhile causes – for every £1 a charity spends with White Brothers, an estimated minimum of £1 is raised in profit towards the worthwhile causes that charity represents.
